Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro – suddenly, the whole world is talking GLP-1.But what many people don't realise is that GLP-1 is not an invention of the pharmaceutical industry. Your body naturally produces this hormone itself.

Supporting GLP-1 Naturally: What Your Gut Has to Do with Satiety

GLP-1 stands for glucagon-like peptide-1 and plays an important role in regulating satiety and blood sugar..

After eating, it is released, among other places, in the gut and sends signals to your body and brain.

But what does your gut microbiome have to do with it? Darmmikrobiom damit zu tun?

Certain gut bacteria break down fibre and, in the process, produce short-chain fatty acids such as butyrate. These metabolites are linked to signalling pathways that may influence the body's natural release of GLP-1.

The fascinating part is this: what you eat influences your gut bacteria – and potentially your natural satiety signals too. Was du isst, beeinflusst deine Darmbakterien – und damit möglicherweise auch deine natürlichen Sättigungssignale.

A varied diet rich in high-fibre plants, fermented foods, protein and healthy fats can support a healthy gut ecosystem. But the composition of a meal, breaks between meals and even the order in which we eat certain foods may also play a role in our metabolic response.

Perhaps it isn't always about eating less or being even more disciplined.

Perhaps we need to relearn how to give our bodies the right signals.

GLP-1 is just one part of a fascinating interplay between the gut, metabolism and hormones.

And this is exactly where holistic nutrition begins for me.
